What happens when we are at the playground? A place designated for children, for their play - of course they play outside these adult designated "playground" areas and "playtime" too.
What happens if we bring them and they don't feel like playing? Option A. Do we encourage them, direct them, lift them on to the equipment way beyond their abilities in the name playtime. They are dependent on us, in their play. Option B. They sit beside us until they are ready to leave our side. At that moment we see their confidence as they choose what they would like to do, their challenges, their risk assessment, their problem solving, their self direction, their flow. They are capable in their independent play. Nature Play - take a step back and observe your child at play Written by Clare Caro |
