Nature Play Host positions open - join the Nature Play team!

The role of the Nature Play Host is firstly about being able to practice supporting child-led play.
As well as, being able to create a space and place for children to feel safe to play independently, to ‘hold’ the environment for adults and children, models a gentle and respectful relationship with ones own child/ren and others, and be an environmentalist at heart.  We do not train people for the position, we look for people already able to fill the role.
Supporting child-led play looks like this:
  • You recognise play is in the child - not the toy, activity, directions, specified play-time or play-mates.
  • Your play support is the same in all contexts - inside, outside, in the woods, at home, in the garden, at the playground, at a play-group, the young crawler, thoughtful toddler, builder, climber.
  • You are a skilled 'anchor of security' - the child leaves our lap when they are ready, the 'anchor does not follow the boat', remaining available for eye contact and the lap to return to.
  • Interrupt only when necessary - you withhold from interrupting play with words of direction, encouragement, warning, approving a child's achievement, helping or putting them into positions they can not get into (or out of) themselves.
  • Offer calm, kind and respectful guidance - when it is necessary to interrupt play (stepping in on aggression-violence behaviour), when helping parents step back and being with our own children.

Role benefits:
  • You join the Nature Play HQ on-line community, share and grow your knowledge of play and how to support play, meet local likeminded parents and growing your own community.  Research shows spending time outdoors has many health benefits, Nature Play Hosts have noticed this and look forward to their 'weekly dose of nature' in a beautiful and relaxed environment. You get the joy of seeing your children unfold, grow and develop, through play.
  • Your child/ren gain an eco-literacy no book, classroom or teacher can offer, a regular space to unfold and grow their intelligence through play, the gift of freedom within the relationship.
  • You both get the joy of spending time together.

Hosts are also required to: Commit to the group running every week in all weathers, arrive early to meet and greet, have access to a computer with Internet and a camera, access to a large flask and prepared to supply tea for everyone every week at a small cost.

Nature Play is run by volunteers passionate about play, committed and skilled at creating a space and place for play to unfold.  Want to join the team? Want more information? Click here to email.
